Job summary
We're accepting applications from Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners to join our bank team! You will be joining an enthusiastic, friendly, motivated multidisciplinary team working within a centre of excellence for neonatal and maternity care.
The role of an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) is built around the four pillars of advanced practice of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research.
It is a role with a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making and incorporates the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment. Able to demonstrate highly specialist knowledge and skills in the care of sick and preterm babies.

Main duties of the job
The ANNP will take responsibility for babies and families within the maternity and neonatal unit, delivering optimal care: planning, delegating, evaluating care ensuring that evidence-based practice is inherent.
The practitioners will demonstrate clinical expertise, competence, confidence and be able to work within an autonomous and defined scope of practice, in collaboration with healthcare colleagues.
The ANNP is expected to undertake practical procedures as agreed with the consultant Neonatologist. This includes:
- Endotracheal intubation/ extubation
- Venous cannulation
- Central umbilical venous and arterial catherisation
- Peripheral arterial catheterisation
- Insertion of percutaneous central venous long lines
- Venipuncture and capillary blood sampling.
- Lumbar puncture
- Supra-pubic aspiration of the bladder
- Urinary cauterisation of the bladder if necessary.
- Thoracentesis & Chest drain insertion
The post holders will champion exemplary nursing leadership and advanced nursing practice and to provide neonatal intensive, high dependency, special and transitional care, commensurate with national guidelines and professional standards.
