Job summary
Somerset Foundation Trust are searching for a staff nurse to join our ophthalmology department here at Musgrove Park Hospital.
To deliver excellent patient care on a daily basis, using the systems in place in the Ophthalmic Outpatient setting. A multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care is used, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers by using the Trust's patient and public involvement strategy.
To work within the Ophthalmic team contributing to the delivery of ophthalmic services to patients at Musgrove Park Hospital and Community Clinics , including Harrison House diagnostic centre.
To provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the department, in the absence of the Senior and Junior clinic Sister, which empowers staff to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care.
To uphold the Trust Values.
To provide technical support for Ophthalmic Clinics including digital stereoscopic optic disc photography, retinal topography scans (HRT), OCT scans, automated perimetry and visual acuity assessment.
Main duties of the job
To plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of patient care in the Outpatient
Setting utilizing research as appropriate and supporting junior colleagues with this.
To be designated to manage the clinic for duration of shift by clinic manager.
To support in the management of a specific group of patients in a variety of Ophthalmic clinics and deliver evidenced based nursing care to the highest possible standard. These will include pre- and post-operative care clinics, Acute Referral Clinics (ARC) and monitoring of patients with a range of ophthalmic condition.
To participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge, information and supporting colleagues to promote a cohesive clinic team, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
