Job summary

These posts are open to candidates with dental qualification (BDS or equivalent) and / or medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent). Applicants with the appropriate visa and eligible for temporary registration with the GDC may also be considered.

Medically qualified only applicants will not be expected to undertake "dental" procedures. However, these posts offer the opportunity to be exposed to facial skin surgery, salivary gland surgery, head and neck oncology, facial trauma and facial deformity.

Main duties of the job

This full shift post offers a wide experience in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

  • Rolling rota providing a broad experiences and training
  • Undertake work within the A&E department as well as working in the wards
  • Within the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department having clinics, Minor Oral Surgery under local anaesthetic and Trauma and Emergency clinics.
  • Admissions and clerking patients for operating lists and emergency cases in theatres
  • Inpatient and day case general anaesthetic theatre lists with senior staff.
  • On call duties include dealing with inpatient care of Maxillofacial patients and emergency referrals.
  • Outpatient new referral and review clinics supported by senior staff

  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent

Desirable

  • MFDS, MJDF or equivalent MRCS
  • Experience of basic life support and resuscitation skills.
  • Previous experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery at DCT/SHO level

Knowledge

Essential

  • oCompetent in history taking and examination skills. Willing to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate. Good oral and written presentation skills.

Desirable

  • oEvidence of understanding and application of knowledge. Understands principals of medical audit. Accepts responsibility and participation in the management of emergencies
