Job summary

Are you a driven and motivated qualified Exercise Instructor looking for a new role that will give you the opportunity to gain new skills and develop professionally?

Due to expansion of the team and internal progression into the Trust's physiotherapy apprenticeship post, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Exercise Instructor to join the MSK Physiotherapy team within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking Exercise Instructor. The successful candidate will enjoy a varied role working with patients to improve their strength, fitness, quality of life and facilitate their long-term engagement with exercise.

Are you interested in joining a supportive, motivated and forward thinking team to develop your skills and knowledge?

By joining the Somerset's MSK Physiotherapy team you will be integrating into a network of highly skilled practitioners. You will be working collaboratively with our therapy teams, including physiotherapists and osteopaths, in all departments, who will be able to offer mentoring, and supervision.

We see a wide range of patients with muscle and joint problems, ranging from sports injuries to chronic conditions such as arthritis. We are a forward thinking, dynamic service and pride ourselves on delivering high quality care for patients.

Main duties of the job

Work in support of the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Service in providing structured physical activity programs for individual patients, which at times will be with patients who have multiple co-morbidities, pain and psychosocial barriers.

Work in partnership with individuals to plan interventions and programs to change health-related behaviour.

Assess potential barriers to change (for example, associated medical conditions, lack of access to affordable opportunities for physical activity, lack of information or resources) and how these might be addressed.

Provide support and/or run existing group exercise programs for a range of general health and musculoskeletal problems such as ESCAPE pain.

Link with other agencies, including health coaches/ village agents to establish community-based exercise provision appropriate to the needs of this population, taking into account the circumstances in which people live, especially the socioeconomic and cultural context.

Identify and provide training for exercise professionals/ colleagues particularly regarding pain management and maintaining physical activity levels.

About us

As a Trust we are proud of the excellent, pioneering service the musculoskeletal physiotherapy team delivers to our patients. As an employer, we recognise that our staff truly are our greatest asset and we are committed to supporting them to achieve a rewarding and satisfying career.

There will be a tailored training program for successful applicants that will help them develop knowledge and skills for this role; skills which would be hard to develop elsewhere. There will also be ongoing support to maintain their professional development. This is an exciting role and provides a real opportunity for the right candidate to benefit patients with musculoskeletal conditions in Somerset.

Would you like to work in one of the most desirable places within the UK?

Working here in Somerset you can soak up all that the idyllic countryside has to offer with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You get to experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan - there is truly something for everyone!
