Job summary

We have a vacancy to cover a gap in the Internal Medicine Training Programme - at CT3 level, as a LAS.

This is working General and Cardio and Geriatric Medicine rotating after 6 months

This is a non-training post approved by the deanery, however you will have access to training where available

This is a fixed term post until 06.08.2024, start date dependant on clearances

Main duties of the job

The role of the posts will be to provide Middle Grade/Registrar medical input to the Cardiology and Geriatric Medicine (post 2) units to enable the efficient and effective assessment and initial management of all cases. The post holder will also support the Physicians who run these units.

The CT3 LAS doctor will have day-to-day responsibility for patients under the care of Consultants. Two full consultant medical ward round to take place each week. The CT3 LAS doctor will lead at least one full ward round each week. The CT3 LAS will supervise the junior doctors in the team and will take part in the teaching of junior medical staff and medical students (Yeovil Academy), co-ordinating this activity carefully with the Consultants. Excellent library facilities are available.

  • To attend the active postgraduate programme with weekly lectures, radiology, medical and pathology meetings and medical unit presentations.
  • To participate in the teaching of Foundation Doctors at the bedside as well as to Medical Students.
  • To maintain a good working relationship with existing staff members in the hospital.
  • To perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant in conjunction, where practicable, with their colleagues both senior and junior.
