Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded specialist eating disorder service.

The service model proposed is rooted within a family-based methodology and uses the Maudsley approach as the core intervention. Additional intervention approaches include CBT-E, and other therapies as appropriate to individual presentation. The team is providing a innovative RO-DBT programme and a rolling Multi Family Therapy programme. The aim of the service is to provide a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach, with all young people care coordinated through this dedicated service. Initial training has been sourced in the Maudsley approach and continued training and professional development is seen as fundamental in the service specification.

The team are part of the QNCC-ED assurance network.

You will be supported through a specific training and induction programme with supervision from the Senior Clinical Psychologist.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a high quality, comprehensive community mental health service for children and young people experiencing Eating Disorders and eating difficulties. The service will also offer support to the families of these clients, providing overall coordination of care and treatment.

The post holder is responsible for providing both direct and indirect specialist supervision and consultation. This will involve supervising and supporting the psychological assessment and therapy provided by more junior psychologists and other clinical members of the team.

The post holder will also offer direct clinical psychology services to children and young people with complex eating disorders or eating related difficulties and their carers, utilising evidence-based interventions focused on individuals, families and wider systems.

The post holder will be involved in the development and delivery of CEDS teaching programmes.

In addition, the post holder is responsible for liaising and working with other professionals as appropriate, alongside the promotion and development in the service of a psychological perspective and the use of psychological approaches and for the care coordination of children and young people.

The post will involve working alongside colleagues across agencies to ensure effective implementation of best practice and service development

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing specialist psychological assessment, clinical formulation and a range of psychological interventions for children and adolescents with eating disorder and eating related difficulties and those with co-morbid complex mental health problems and their family/carers. Implementing a psychological service for young people and their carers, as part of a personal case load frequently dealing with highly distressing or emotional circumstances.
  • To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment of a clients eating disorder in a holistic manner, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems and employing methods of proven efficacy according to research informed national guidelines.
  • To liaise with appropriate professionals and take a lead in multi-disciplinary case discussions/planning meetings.
  • To provide specialist consultancy to the multi-disciplinary team and other professionals about problem assessment, formulation, and therapeutic interventions and client management.
