Job summary

This is a newly developed post for an emerging countywide Children and Young People's Neurodevelopmental Partnership Service (CYPNP).

This post will support the work of the wider multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of children and young people accessing an assessment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Somerset and to provide post-diagnosis support to individuals with ADHD.

Join us as we launch our Somerset wide ADHD service for Children and young people to 18 years. Our new pathway is connecting and enhancing existing pockets of ADHD care, joining with the existing CYPNP Autism assessment team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold a clinical caseload, co-leading on ADHD assessments for children and young people alongside multidisciplinary colleagues from Community Paediatrics, CAMHS, Nursing and Clinical Psychology.

The successful candidate will ideally have knowledge of, and experience in working with, children and young people with neuro-diversity including ADHD, and autism

The post holder will work as a specialist OT within the diagnostic and post-diagnostic pathway for children and young people in Somerset aged 5 18 covered by the ADHD assessment team in the Children and Young Peoples Neurodevelopmental partnership. This will involve, but is not restricted to, the gathering of comprehensive developmental histories through clinical interview with parent/carer, structured observational assessments including using QB software, sensory processing assessments and use of various tools and measures.

You will carry out assessment of cases as part of the MDT working with colleagues from different professional backgrounds within the team to give bespoke assessments depending on the age and presentation of the individual.

You will support assessments for dual diagnosis of ADHD and Autism when children are being assessed for both conditions. You will give advice to other members of the MDT on the occupational therapy aspects of children and young peoples presentations to inform the assessment process. You will support the holistic assessment of a young person to fully understand their strengths and needs in the context of their life.

The post holder will contribute to ongoing service development work around the assessment and post diagnostic support pathway as directed by the operational service manager and the therapies lead. This is likely to include support to children, young people and their families post-assessment including Psycho-education and support around managing the challenges of ADHD through environmental modification and sensory supports.

The team works countywide (excluding East Mendip) so the post-holder will need to have the flexibility to work across the geography to deliver assessments within the community though consideration will be given to the postholders situation to limit travel where possible.
