Job summary

Mendip Community mental health Service are a progressive team who would like to further enhance their SMI offer through the recruitment of a non-medical prescriber SMI clinic lead. This is a role for a qualified non-medical prescriber; however we will also consider applications from candidates with the right experience who are enrolled but have yet to complete their non-medical prescriber training.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the facilitation of the CMHS clinics including clozapine, depot, and wellbeing. This will include clinical oversight and leadership for clinic staff including Band 6 nurses as well as clinical support staff. This post-holder will undertake monitoring and follow-ups. The post-holder, working within the CMHS, will increase timely access to medications and allow for increased frequency of monitoring and medicines optimisation.

Main duties of the job

Working as an independent prescriber, this post-holder will work with the CMHS management team develop and embed the clinical nurse specialist role within the CMHS. It is envisaged that this will include leading and prescribing in both clozapine and depot clinics as well as a stand-alone nurse prescribing clinic which may include initiation and ongoing monitoring of psychotropic medications (including annual reviews) and smoking cessation. Other nursing and support staff will continue to be involved in the clinics.

In addition, this post-holder would be regularly involved in CMHS assessments where there is a medication/diagnostic issue to allow for immediate prescribing at the point of assessment, or medication advice to the GP.
