Cardiology Nurse - Chest pain

Job summary

To provide highly specialist assessment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department with suspected cardiac chest pain. Formulate a diagnosis, order and interpret cardiac investigations and develop a management plan in line with local and national guidelines.

The triage patients who present via emergency calls, self-presentation or GP referrals and expedite urgent findings to facilitate admission or discharge with appropriate onward referral or cardiology follow up.

Will work independently, demonstrating the ability to work effectively and flexibly in a changing environment. Communicate efficiently with GPs, Somerset Primary Link, ED and Cardiology Staff of all grades.

Main duties of the job

To practise in a safe and efficient manner following NICE guidelines and fully supported by the lead chest pain practitioners.

To assess patients, attending the emergency department with chest pain. The post involves triaging, history taking, physical examination, ECG interpretation, differential diagnosis and management plan.

To work collaboratively with all aspects of the service to ensure timely patient flows and exceptional patient experience whether the patient is admitted or discharged with appropriate follow up.
