Job summary

We are delighted to offer the role of Dietetic Apprentice within the friendly and supportive Dietetic Team based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, which is part of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.

The Dietetic Apprentice will start as a Band 3 progressing to a Band 4 after 12 months into the apprenticeship and Band 5 on qualification.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the post holder will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Dietitian.

The dietetic degree apprenticeship is a route that will allow you to work as an apprentice in a dietetic setting with an income, as well as study at university to complete a dietetic degree programme.

You will initially be employed on 12-month fixed term contract. This will change to an apprenticeship contract on confirmation of placement on the university course. You MUST meet the University enrolment critieria and be a UK resident for at least 3 years.

Main duties of the job

The Dietetic Apprentice role will consist of on-the-job learning, dietetic placements and university study.

The aim for this post holder will be to commence the dietetic apprenticeship course run by Sheffield Hallam University starting in Spring 2024.

This course is a 3-year course which is fully remote.

Qualifications

Essential

  • 2 GCSE passes at grade C or grade 4 and above in Mathematics or English language/literature. Level 2 equivalent literacy & numeracy qualifications will be accepted.
  • Evidence of successful formal accredited study at Level 3 including A Levels, BTEC, Access Courses, NVQ and other Apprenticeships. Other qualifications are also acceptable if accredited by Ofqual
  • Evidence of commitment to personal development

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 Health & Social Care/Health
  • ECDL or equivalent IT training

Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of basic nutrition

Experience

  • Experience of working in face-to-face contact with the general public
  • Experience and proficient with email, internet and Microsoft Word applications
