Job summary

A NEW and exciting opportunity has arisen to enable you to train as an Apprentice Podiatry Assistant Practitioner working in our busy and forward-thinking Podiatry Service.

We are looking for a well-organised, enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our team as an apprentice assistant practitioner working with and supporting podiatrists. You will work alongside podiatry team colleagues whilst you train to become an assistant practitioner.

This apprenticeship will run in conjunction with University Centre South Devon and will require you to study whilst working in the service.

On completion of the apprenticeship you will gain a Foundation Degree, Higher Apprenticeship and Higher Technical Qualification.

Year 1 - Band 2 salary

Year 2 - Band 3 salary

On completion of the Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree apprenticeship, assistant practitioners are qualified to work at a Band 4 level in the NHS and have a more in-depth understanding about factors that influence podiatric conditions and recovery.

Main duties of the job

Apprentices will be workplace based for four days (30 hours) per week and 1 day (7.5 hours) will be protected study time.

Attendance of training delivered as e-learning and face to face with the associated HEI is essential and annual leave must be arranged outside these sessions.

The post-holder will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team responsible for providing high quality, safe and compassionate care.

To meet the needs of the service, the post holder may be required to work in other areas as appropriate, as directed by the line manager.

Applicants need to be a good team player with exceptional interpersonal skills. The jobs will be based in one of our hubs: Taunton, Bridgwater or Yeovil with travel to other sites.

A full UK driving licence with the ability and willingness to travel across sites trustwide is essential for the role. Once qualified as an assistant practitioner, you will be required to work independently and as part of a team.

High standards of treatment and professionalism, and adherence to policies and procedures is essential.

You will work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner.This is a training post and progression through all levels will be expected in accordance with the assessment criteria managed by the HEI providing training.

There is a requirement for the student to pass each element of the course in order to progress.

*** Failure to complete any aspect of the academic or clinical components within the set time scale will result in removal from the course and termination of the contract with Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. ***

Any interruption to academic studies would need to be negotiated with the University Centre South Devon and could lead to re-deployment to a support worker role within the Trust.
