Job summary

Clinical coding is a high profile area of work and our team collects data about every patient who visits the Trust, investigating all aspects of theirjourney. Our role is essential for the effective management of the Trust and directly influences patient care and the Trust's income though Paymentby Results and future contracts.There are exciting plans for future development opportunities with the role and we also actively link in with the Trusts Getting It Right First Time(GIRFT) team which is a national project pulling together all the good things we do to enable us to learn from other Trusts.This role provides you with the opportunity to study towards the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) and become an Accredited ClinicalCoder. Passing the NCCQ is required for career progression to the next band. We will support you by providing various training sessions in worktime, but please be aware that there will be an expectation that you will allow time outside of work for study. NHS England recommend that 2-4hours of study time per week is needed to adequately prepare for the NCCQ.

Main duties of the job

Here at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, we are excited to recruit a high calibre individual to join our existing professional team of ClinicalCoders. We are one of the first Trusts in the UK to deliver integrated Acute, Community and Mental Health Services therefore we can offer avaried role working across a range of services, including maternity, ITU and other specialist services.An opportunity exists for someone interested in a career in health informatics to join the profession of clinical coding. We require a motivated andenthusiastic individual to be part of our extremely busy clinical coding team. The successful candidate must be flexible and able to work underpressure to deadlines. Trainee clinical coders are provided with a structured learning program, with the aim of becoming a qualified AccreditedClinical Coder upon passing the National Clinical Coding Qualification.
