Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with the passion to train as a Specialist in Geriatric Medicine by obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). We have an excellent reputation for supporting our Trainees with their education within Geriatric Medicine. We have extensive opportunities to experience managing older adults on our Care of the Older Person Wards and within our subspecialty areas including orthogeriatrics, movement disorders, cardiogeriatrics, oncogeriatrics, continence services and perioperative care.
For individuals who want to progress to achieve their CCT through the CESR route, there is a wealth of experience within our COOP team to support the candidate.
More recently we have expanded our services into the community by developing our community geriatric work and creating the frailty hospital at home service. There are plenty of opportunities for service development and leadership roles within Somerset Foundation Trust. The COOP team would love to train and support an individual within Geriatric Medicine by sharing our enthusiasm for Frailty patient care and management. Main duties of the job
The appointee would join our established Care of the Older Person team. They will have the opportunity to rotate between general medicine, the core geriatric medicine wards, geriatric medicine subspecialities (Orthogeriatrics, Parkinson's disease, Dementia, Cardiogeriatrics, POPS) and our community services. The post holder will be able to attend general medical clinics, geriatric medicine clinics and rapid access clinics. They will supervise medical trainees. The candidate will have the opportunity to support medical students from Bristol and Peninsula medical schools.
The candidate will undertake core medical and geriatric medicine training. They will be provided with an educational supervisor with an eportfolio to complete their assessments and education.

- Provision of a service with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
- In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that all duties are carried outto the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work
- participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD
- The post holder will contribute to the acute unselected medical take by participating on the acute medical registrar rota.
- The post holder will work closely with the medical and nursing teams on all the wards as well as other departments
- The post holder will provide care for patients for the designated Consultant team at ward level, and receive support/ training from the Consultant team.

- Joint responsibility with junior team to plan discharges and write discharge summaries in a timely manner.
- Provide teaching to nursing and/or ancillary staff and undergraduate students.
