Musculoskeletal (MSK) Practitioner/ First Contact Physiotherapy Practitioner (FCP)

Are you an experienced and motivated musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapist looking for a new challenge?

Are you already working in an FCP role but want to move into a portfolio role across the MSK pathway with protected personal and service development time?

We believe in developing our employees in portfolio working so have opportunities to work as an FCP within our Primary Care Networks in Somerset andacross the MSK pathway within our integrated MSK service for example in MSK rehabilitation, MIU, ED, The Orthopaedic Assessment in Somerset (OASIS) or secondary care orthopaedic clinics.

This post could be starting at Band 7 with development through to an Advanced Practice role (Band 8a) with a clear progression pathway. If you're an experienced Band 6, this could be anexciting opportunity for you too!

We prioritise developing our staff by offering funded postgraduate options, including taught FCP routes and HEE accredited Advanced Practice opportunities. You'll have protected non-clinical time to develop yourself and help support the development of the service.

We're working collaboratively across Somerset to deliver an integrated MSK pathway witha systemwide host model to improve patient access but also provide a supportive environment with many learning opportunities

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical expertise, including acting in afirst-contact role and making decisions about the best course of action for patients' care. This will involve seeing patients, without prior contact with their GP.

Practitioners will use their clinical-reasoning skills to undertake an assessment of the presenting problem, interpret findings, develop working and differential diagnoses, and formulate, communicate and implement management plans that take account of individuals' needs, goals and wishes, local service availability and relevant local and national guidelines and policies.

Enable individuals to make decisions about their care using the principles of shared decision making:

  • Deliver programmes of supported patient self-management, in ways that facilitate behavioural change, optimise individuals' physical activity, mobility, fulfilment of personal goals and independence relevant to their (musculoskeletal) MSK condition.
  • Provide clinical and strategic leadership for the MSK services within a area with responsibility for safety, quality, training and clinical governance agendas to support the MSK workforce.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of an education programme for staff focusing on the biopsychosocial assessment and appropriate first line management of MSK conditions to promote more efficient and effective use of MSK services and resources.
