Somerset NHS Foundation Trust may be the answer! Our dynamic Talking Therapies Service is currently looking for a new Psychological Therapist/Counsellor.

We are a busy Talking Therapies for Depression and Anxiety service in one of England's most desirable counties, offering time-limited Step 3 interventions (e.g., IPT, PCE CfD, DIT, or HI CBT) as well as Step 2 treatments.

We would like to hear from youif you are a motivated, flexible, self-directed mental health professional and can see enjoying yourself work in our Trust.

This position may require flexible hours between 8am until 8pm and on Saturdays and a caseload of up to 25 booked clinical contacts per week.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Somerset NHS Talking Therapies Service for Depression and Anxiety and will provide Psychological Therapy to and work with clients who have a range of moderate to severe anxiety and depression-related problems for which Psychological Therapy is demonstrated to be clinically effective. Our service users come from different cultural backgrounds and ages and this may include the use of interpreters when necessary. The post holder should be committed to equal opportunities.

S/he will offer treatment face-to-face (by video and venue-based) and sometimes by telephone when necessary and appropriate.

Although we are ideally looking for counsellors with existing NHS Talking Therapies compliant training, we are also interested to see applications from those yet to train. For those successful applicants, a similar but Band 6 job description would be available and any job offer would be dependent upon completing and qualifying in a compliant training. Responsibilities include;

  • Screen new referrals at the point of referral and be part of the Duty Team as necessary and in agreement with their Team Leader.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all interventions and innovations offered to ensure they are able to refer patients to the correct treatment.
  • Offer consultation to their own team, practitioners from other teams in the service and to external stakeholders and referrers such as GPs and secondary care mental health services
  • Providing Line Management (if applicable)
  • Supervising Psychological Therapists/Counsellors (if applicable)
  • Contribute to the service's key performance indicators

The post holder will work with the service leaders to further develop innovative ways of providing an accessible service across Somerset. Liaison with a wide range of agencies is central to the role. Working flexible hours is required; including evening and possible Saturday working. In addition to some remote working, the post holder will be required to work with clients face-to-face, commuting between sites as appropriate and based on service need.
