Clinical Psychologist for Cancer Services - Band 8a

This new post, funded by SWAG for 2 years, (with a view to permanent funding in the future) is a development through the personalised care agenda and NHS Long term plan for Cancer Services.
It recognises the importance a holistic, patient centred approach to care for cancer patients, and the need for an integrated model of psycho-social support for patients and their families from diagnosis throughout treatment and where appropriate to end of life.
You'llbe responsible for, providing specialist (level 4) input for inpatients and outpatients and working with Nurses, Doctors and AHPs, liaising with MDT's, providing supervision for agreed groups of front line cancer staff, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders .
This post will be instrumental in delivering level II and advanced communication training to staff groups.
You'll play an important role in evaluating the outcomes of services provided and mapping / modelling psycho- oncology services required for the future.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist experienced in working with people with cancer and / or a hospital environment OR, you may have an interest in Cancer Services!! You'll deliver a Psycho Oncology Service for Cancer services within SFT and YDH.
We are also interested in hearing from newly qualified Psychologists without cancer experience they do not need to have cancer experience.We are also offering external supervision from a CP with cancer as a speciality to support their role.
The postholder will be part of the established support and counselling service, based at the Hope Centre at SFT, working alongside the lead for Psychological and Support services, providing psychosocial services to patients and staff across Somerset.

Work closely with the Counselling Service at SFT and YDH
Work closely with members of multidisciplinary teams at SFT and YDH
Develop strong links with stakeholders internally and externally to ensure the service works in an integrated way with other parts of Personalised Care and Support (PCS), formally known as Living with and beyond cancer. This includes other services in the trust which our patients may need to access and strengthening links to Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services in the community, to ensure that patients receive well co-coordinated care.
Communicate with patients, families, carers, staff, and managers at all levels, clearly, effectively and informatively, with appropriate compassion.
Link in with colleagues working to improve and develop psychosocial services across SWAG, taking part in meetings and feeding back to the PCS working party as appropriate.

- Registered with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Clinical/Audit work with people with long term conditions such as cancer
- Experience of working with a range of complex presentations
- Significant experience of working with and teaching psychology training to staff and other professionals
- Supervision experience
- Good understanding of HOPE. Heamatology, Oncology, Palliative Care and Enhanced Supportive Care
Desirable
- Accreditation in CBT or CAT etc
