Job summary

Somerset NHS foundation Trust invites applicants to apply for this Clinical Fellow post based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. This is a post is best suited for an individual who has completed CT or equivalent and wishes to enhance their surgical experience and portfolio prior to ST application.

The post has access to the patient safety team and successful applicants can take the opportunity to work with the team to provide ward and theatre based simulation, human factors and patient safety activities across the trust. In addition, there is access to the surgical research team which will involve training in recruiting to randomised control trials, basic research principles and the opportunity to work on local and national projects with a view to produce peer reviewed publications.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have access to elective general surgical lists and clinics and join the 12 central level doctors on the on call rota.

The surgical department includes 4 General Surgery operating theatres with one dedicated emergency theatre plus a Day Surgical Unit with 4 theatres. There is a 12 bedded ITU and a 6 bedded HDU along with 3 inpatient surgical wards There are 8 Lower GI Consultants, 5 Upper GI Consultants, 6 Vascular Consultants, 3 Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons and 6 Urology Consultants, as well as several Associate Specialists and Nurse Specialists.
