Here at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust we are excited to invite applications for our Clinical Fellow Program based at Musgrove Park Hospital. These posts are to commence on the 4th August 2022 for a period of 12 months, with the opportunity to extend this post to 2 years.

The Clinical Fellow Program provides an exciting opportunity for trainees interested in pursuing a career in Medicine. This opportunity will allow you to gain experience of clinical medicine at a CT / ST level, and be involved in the medical on call Rota's.

Main duties of the job

The medical fellowship is designed on a 50% Clinical (general medicine) and 50% non-clinical commitment. Successful candidates will spend their time in their chosen sub-specialty during the non-clinical commitment period. This gives candidates a great opportunity to spend time in their chosen sub-specialty and work closely with leaders in that field. The sub-specialties include:

  1. Cardiology
  2. Stroke Medicine
  3. Acute Medicine with Renal attachment
  4. Respiratory Medicine
  5. Neurology
  6. Endocrinology
  7. COOP
  8. Teaching (Pg Cert in Medical Ed)
  9. Leadership (Pg Cert in Leadership)

You will be joining a cohesive and progressive team with a strong reputation for clinical excellence. We have an excellent reputation for training and we expect the successful post holders to develop and enhance their skills during their tenure. We are looking for dynamic individuals who have completed their Foundation Programme training and have experience of working in the NHS.

As detailed above, building is already underway for a new surgical and Critical Care centre encompassing 2 Interventional Radiology compatible theatres and an Acute assessment hub to support care for patients requiring emergency assessment. The Trust sees IR as integral to the development of all acute and complex services.

Surgical and Critical Care Centre

In total the new centre will provide:

  • 6 endoscopy rooms, patient recovery and clinical support areas
  • 8 state-of-the-art operating theatres (including two interventional radiology theatres), recovery areas and clinical support.
  • 22 critical care beds, all specified for level 2 and 3 critical care patients
