Job summary

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be required to undertake the full range of software testing activities and to provide cover for customer support when required. The role would suit an individual with proven experience of application software testing and ideally some knowledge of testing automation which is an area we are keen to develop.

Somerset Cancer Register is the leading cancer system provider and supports more than 100 organisations across England, which is unique for an NHS software supplier!

The team is made up of over 30 NHS IM&T staff who have specialist knowledge about cancer. The professionals employed cover Analysts, Testers, Developers, Trainers, Business Support & Customer Support, all of whom work with clinicians, operational staff and policy makers, to deliver the SCR products.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be required to support the SCR Test Co-ordinator in the execution of scripts, script writing, supporting testing plans and other activities relevant to ensure the delivery of high quality software releases.

Develop and maintain test scripts in line with requirements of the Test Plan

Execute test scripts as required, raising defects and bugs, reporting issues and risks and following standard documented procedures

Work closely with appropriate users to ensure they understand testing requirements, impact and are able to follow test plan requirements

Undertake relevant duties as required in line with the Testing cycle

Participate in demonstrations of SCR to potential new customers both within the NHS and externally

Occasionally (generally no more than two days per month) provide application and implementation support to customers

Essential

  • Educated to NVQ level 3 in IT related subject or equivalent gained through specific relevant experience
  • GCSE 'C' grade or equivalent in English and Maths

Desirable

  • ISEB Foundation Certificate in Testing

Knowledge

Essential

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft products

Desirable

  • Understanding of Somerset Cancer Register system
  • Understanding of testing lifecycle

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in software user acceptance and / or other testing of software
  • Working in a customer service environment

  • Experience with security testing
  • Experience with test automation
