Job summary
Applications are invited for an RCS accredited Senior Clinical Fellow in Bariatric & Upper GI Surgery commencing October 2022 for a period of 12 months.
You will be exposed to a wide range of bariatric procedures, principally laparoscopic gastric bypass, banding, sleeve gastrectomy, intragastric balloon and revisional bariatric surgery.
It is expected that the successful candidatewill be capable of independent practice by the end of the post.
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is an International Centre of Excellence, the Level 1 Bariatric Surgery Centre for the Southwest region and has an established Bariatric Fellowship programme with Royal College of Surgeons of England approval.
Main duties of the job
As well as training in theatres, you will also be exposed to the bariatric MDT and to outpatients. You will be encouraged to become involved in the unit's research activity and will contribute to the Middle Grade General Surgical on-call rota (non-resident) which is supported by both CT and F1 on-call tiers.
Somerset NHS FT has an enthusiastic and expanding Upper GI Bariatric team comprising 5 Consultants, 1 Bariatric Post-CCT Fellow, 1 UGI Senior Clinical Fellow, 1 Specialist Registrar, 2 ST1/2 and 3 F1 doctors including this post and it is supported by a full range of support staff including Bariatric nurse specialists and Bariatric dieticians. The team works closely with Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Endocrinology.

- Take part in the appraisal processes of the Hospital and its clinical governance activities.
