This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of highly motivated professionals, in a progressive department, providing high quality Interventional Radiology services to the people of Somerset and North Devon. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join a robust existing team of 6 Interventional Radiologists in this regional centre for vascular services.This vacancy is due to upcoming retirement, but services are also expanding.
The Interventional Radiology Service is ISAS accredited and was awarded exemplar status by the British Society Interventional Radiology Quality improvement in 2018.Our Recent GIRFT report, described the IR services as excellent - we offer tertiary level care with the warmth of a DGH setting.
Somerset and North Devon vascular network has a population of > 800,000 and incorporates North Devon and Yeovil districts in addition to the local Taunton and Somerset population. The large volume of peripheral vascular and aneurysm work which reflects our elderly demographic and the National Vascular registry 2020 demonstrates we are one of the busiest centres in the South. Emergency and Inpatient work is centred at Taunton (Musgrove park) with spoke day-case service at North Devon and Transfer of IR from Yeovil to Taunton.
Main duties of the job
A broad repertoire of non-vascular are also undertaken. Other services offered include uterine fibroids and prostate artery embolisation, venous intervention, oncology support services. Opportunities to develop any new skills and develop new services, both interventional and diagnostic will be encouraged.
We have excellent Interventional Radiology facilities including a 5-bed day-case unit, staffed by a large Team of 8 specialist IR nurses, 12 HCAs and 3 Theatre support workers a. A further step-down recliner unit will be completed in 2021. Our IR facilities have been upgraded in 2018 and the department benefits from a spacious main Interventional Radiology theatre with Siemens Artis Q hardware, a second interventional room, and dedicated USS intervention suite.
2024will see completion of a new fully funded critical care and surgical wing which will host an IR hybrid theatre and a further hybrid-compatible theatre to plan for future expansion New Intensive care, High dependency and surgical admissions units will reside under the same roof with a new direct link to the Emergency Department.
