Job summary
We are looking for a clinical psychologist/psychotherapist experienced in working with people with cancer and /or a hospital environment to deliver a psycho oncology service for Cancer services within SFT and YDH. The postholder will be part of the established support and counselling service, based at the Hope Centre at SFT, working alongside the lead for Counselling Support, providing psychosocial services to patients and staff across Somerset.
This new post, funded by SWAG for 2 years, (with a view to substantive funding in the future) is a development through the personalised care agenda and NHS Long term plan for Cancer Services. It recognises the importance a holistic, patient centred approach to care for cancer patients, and the need for an integrated model of psychosocial support for patients and their families from diagnosis throughout treatment and where appropriate to end of life.
The postholder will be responsible for liaising with MDT's and internal and external stakeholders, providing specialist (level 4) input for inpatients and outpatients and supporting and working with Nurses, Doctors and AHPs. This post will be instrumental in delivering level II and advanced communication training to staff groups.
Main duties of the job
The post comes with three main elements
1. To deliver a level 4 psychological services to inpatients/outpatients who are under the care of the cancer services teams within Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital. Offering psychological interventions such as CAT,CBT, EMDR etc
2. To facilitate restorative clinical supervision to staff working within the cancer services directorate.
3. To plan, deliver and evaluate formal and informal communication skills education across the hospital sites
There will be an element of research and audit within the two year fixed term contract

Cancer Services currently sites within the CSSS directorate which includes cancer services and clinical support services such as pharmacy, radiology, physiotherapy, OT etc
The directorate is working alongside the trust to develop and build the merge with YDH which is set for 2023
