We are seeking a highly motivated and committed apprentice to join and enhance our busy administration team within the Community Dental Service based in Bournemouth.

Primary Care Dental Service - Who are we?

We provide dental services in Dorset and Somerset for adults and children with additional needs. These may include people with learning disabilities and certain mental health, medical or physical health problems.

Main duties of the job

The dental administration team are at the heart of our service and play a fundamental role in ensuring our patients receive an excellent standard of care. It is important to us that all patients accessing our services have a positive experience and the successful postholder will be supported to work with the wider team to achieve that.

The role is varied and extremely busy and we are looking for someone to embrace this whilst demonstrating the ability to cope with the demands of the services. It is essential that the post holder is an excellent team player and has the ability to prioritise and manage all requests in a timely manner whilst keeping the patient at the heart of everything that they do.

The role will be predominantly patient facing with a high percentage of time spent on the telephone answering queries and booking appointments etc, as our patient cohort include those with Additional Needs and complex medical conditions the successful post holder will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and on occasion have to manage difficult conversations. The post holder will work closely with our dental service teams across Dorset and Somerset and communicate regularly with other professionals from the wider healthcare sector, patients, their families, guardians and carers.

The working pattern will be discussed at the interview to ensure the successful candidates are fully supported in their learning and development and able to complete an educational pathway with the Bridgwater and Taunton College. The College is located across two primary sites but the majority of your delivery will be supported online, through asynchronous study. You will be allocated a college academic mentor for the duration of your programme who will work with both you and your line manager to identify opportunities for growth and development and you will also attend a series of workshops to support knowledge development in business administration.

This is a fixed term contract for 18 months, gaining valuable work experience in Customer Services and a Level 2 qualification.

Salary Information for Apprentices

Year one of Apprenticeship: £8,385 per annum, pro rata -all age groups

Year two of Apprenticeship: age related if applicable

19 - 20 years: £12,792 per annum, pro rata

21 - 22 years: £16,302 per annum, pro rata

23 and over: £17,374.50 per annum, pro rata

To participate in appropriate training opportunities and take initiative to understand the reception and administrative roles and has good communication skills and knowledge of IT including Outlook, Word and Excel, ideally with;

  • GCSE Maths & English
  • working towards a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Customer Service and Business and Administration
  • willingness to learn and develop

There will be an initial telephone assessment with the college then if successful, there will be a formal interview with the Manager at a later date.
