Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is inviting someone like you to join our cohesive department on a substantive, 10 PA contract. We are recruiting for two posts which have arisen due to retirement, expansion of services and replacement sessions for trust roles that members of our team have taken on. Main duties of the job
You will be working at Musgrove Park Hospital which is a rapidly expanding and busy District General Hospital, based in one of the best kept secret locations in the country. We provide acute & community services to circa 350,000 living in the west side of the county. In addition to all the main DGH surgical specialties we support:
- A regional spinal surgery service 24/7 for Somerset, North Devon and North Somerset patients and tertiary care for Dorset. Total population for out of hours cover 1.2 million.
- A county-wide vascular service 24/7; to include East Somerset ( all elective and emergency work) and North Devon (all elective and emergency work) alongside Taunton and Somerset catchment.
- A region-wide specialist obesity and bariatric surgery service for the population of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, circa 2,000,000.
- Critical Care currently 18 beds, but expanding to 22 beds by 2024.
- Anaesthetic Support for 24/7 PCI and 24/7 Interventional Radiology service.
- The Beacon Oncology unit, providing comprehensive cancer services from a dedicated modern facility, to the population of Taunton and Somerset.

Your new role will be varied and no day will be the same! Patient safety is very important to us and you will be actively involved in the improvement projects being undertaken within the trust as well as contributing to the safety and quality initiatives.
You will also provide key supervision and support to our doctors in training, delivering teaching sessions and assisting with their personal and professional development. This will also include the assessment and appraisal of our trainees and the appropriate liaison with Clinical/College tutors, when required.
Other clinical duties will include:
- Quality Improvement and Audit active participation in QI and audit projects, including initiation and supervision of projects related to your subspecialist interest. Participation in national audits is encouraged. All projects are approved by the Clinical Effectiveness and Audit Committee.
- Clinical Governance Staff are accountable and responsible for maintaining their own clinical competence and acting within their competence. In addition they must comply with requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision.
- Administration to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.
- Departmental Activities to contribute and support monthly anaesthetic and ICU departmental meetings.
