Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow (Higher ST6+) in Paediatric Retrieval and Simulation to commence from 01 September 2025 for 12 months.

The post will offer the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in Paediatric Retrieval Medicine and Simulation. The candidate will help develop the PaNDR Simulation Programme that covers the East of England (both at CUH and the District General Hospitals in the region).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will gain experience in Paediatric retrieval. They will be encouraged to attend theatre lists to maintain expertise in key transfer skills including orotracheal or nasotracheal intubations. Whilst doing retrievals, duties will include taking transfer calls, providing advice, leading the team in the referring hospital, stabilising the child for transfer and transfer to the PICU/receiving Unit under supervision from the Retrieval Consultant. The post holder will be encouraged to follow the PICS-ATG Transport Passport curriculum as per the RCPCH PICM Retrieval competencies and keep a transport logbook

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application is required.

Job responsibilities

This post is a hybrid clinical and educational post in a proportion 50 - 50. It is open to a senior trainee (ST6 and higher) in Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine (with paediatric experience), Anaesthesia (with paediatric experience) and Paediatric Intensive Care. It will offer the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in Paediatric Retrieval Medicine and Simulation. The candidate will help develop the PaNDR Simulation Programme with an intense activity that covers the East of England (both at CUH and the District General Hospitals in the region).

The successful candidate will join an expert team of health providers who have a long trajectory in stabilizing and transferring critically unwell children, and in offering Simulation mainly for postgraduate doctors, members of PaNDR/PICU and other members of clinical teams in different hospitals. Both the clinical and the educational activity will mainly be based in PaNDR at CUH.

The post holder will work a full shift rota for PaNDR and will be resident on call. The rota is a full shift rota of 9 person rota. The rota is approved in terms of New Deal and European working time directive (EWTD). Hours are regularly monitored, and the trust is committed to implementing the EWTD. All members of the rota are expected to co-operate with their peers and be flexible to allow the system to work effectively. Clinical and administrative duties will be equally shared on a rota sharing with other trainees.

Candidates will be encouraged to attend all training related to the management of the acutely unwell patient and simulation:- Debriefing Courses (such as the courses offered at GSTT in London).- Train the Trainers Courses (such as the one offered by UBHW in Bristol).- General Instructor Course (offered in different locations in the region).- Mechanical Ventilation Course.
