Qualifications

Essential

• Degree or equivalent in Music
• Professional Qualification in Music Therapy at master's level or equivalent

Desirable

• Membership of a special interest group
• Evidence of relevant post registration training

Experience

Essential

• Experience of managing own caseload and prioritising effectively
• Experience of Music Therapy individual assessment and intervention relevant to this client group
• Experience of using clinical supervision effectively
• Ability to assess patients' suitability for music therapy interventions and to make decisions and recommendations based on strong theoretical knowledge and an understanding of the evidence base
• Ability to understand non-verbal communication
• Ability to support and engage in shared decision making with patients
• Skills in providing group work
• Experience working with young people and their families

Desirable

• oExperience of working in paediatrics
• oExperience of working with teenagers and young people in an acute hospital setting
• o Experience of working collaboratively with people and teams
• oKnowledge and experience of using music technology relevant to this client group
• oExperience and skills in song writing
• oGuitar and/or keyboard skills

Knowledge

Essential

• Ability to identify, monitor and evaluate Music Therapy goals with patients to support recovery and wellbeing
• Ability to offer Music Therapy interventions to meet the needs of individual and groups with complex needs, including those with complex communication needs
• Understanding of a range of contemporary professional approaches

Skills

Essential

• Ability to work flexibly and responsively, providing individual or group assessment and interventions according to need
• Ability to plan and prioritise own workload autonomously
• Good communication skills, capable of conveying and receiving complex and sensitive information within emotive contexts
• Ability to liaise effectively with a range of professionals
• Ability to engage in effective clinical supervision
• Ability to provide services in a variety of environments to meet the needs of the patient
