Job summary

The Director of Midwifery is the most senior midwife in the organisation, and will be a leader and advocate for safe, high quality maternity care, managing the strategic and operational delivery of maternity services locally.

The Director of Midwifery at CUH is a key position, accountable to the Chief Nurse for the strategic planning of maternity services and the day to day delivery of high standards of provision of midwifery care, the provision of strategic, professional leadership and advice, and acting as both an advocate for women and the expert voice of the profession. The role will have a prime focus on the delivery of high standards of women-centred care across integrated care pathways and services in the Rosie Hospital and the local community.

The role involves working in partnership with other organisations across the Integrated Care System, and the post holder will develop and maintain a network of mutually beneficial relationships with the Regional Chief Midwife, CCGs, maternity providers, Public Health England, Health Education England, Care Quality Commission, the Royal Colleges and other key stakeholders. This is with the aim of taking forward national policies for women across the ICS and developing and enacting a long-term strategic vision that enables high quality care and sustainable services contributing to the delivery of improved outcomes and improved family experiences.

Main duties of the job

Be pivotal in ensuring safe, timely and compassionate care.

Be the professional lead and act as a role model for all Trust midwives at all times

Be an active member of the Corporate Nursing, Midwifery and AHP team.

Be the professional lead on all matters relating to midwifery and maternity practice and provide advice to the Chief Nurse, Divisional Directors, Head of Midwifery, Clinical Leads and Management Executive.

Lead strategic and innovative midwifery developments across the organisation and contribute to a system wide approach to delivering maternity transformation.

Work in partnership with other organisations in the provision and planning of universal health services, taking forward national policies for women and babies to develop a long-term strategic vision that enables high quality and sustainable services.

Work alongside the maternity divisional triumvirate and guide the Head of Midwifery on delivery of midwifery and maternity development programmes, midwifery and nurse staffing, including recruitment and retention, workforce planning, staff experience, ensuring delivery of high quality services.
