Job summary
The Cancer Directorate is embarking on exciting developments in nurse-led cancer services and we are looking for an experienced urology / prostate specialist nurse to help take the urological and prostate cancer services to the next level.
You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing prostate cancer diagnostics and treatments as well as developing nurse-led services to help reduce waiting lists as per national targets. You will be supported and line-managed by the Prostate Nurse Consultant. This role includes leadership responsibilities of the Urological Cancer specialist nurses as well as core member of MDT.
You will demonstrate a robust knowledge base of prostate cancer and will be able to demonstrate proficiency in patient assessment and triage. You will be able to hold skilled and sensitive conversations whilst acting as patient advocate.
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate individual who is able to lead by example influencing others to provide the highest levels of safe and effective care, whilst promoting positive patient experiences and outcomes.
As this is a developmental post from AFC band 7-8a you will be offered mentorship, coaching or clinical supervision. We offers shadowing or informal visit for those who are interested to have a face to face discussion prior to application if needed. We have a number of competency packages for you to work through as part of this role and you will be given support to progress through these.
Main duties of the job
Manage and lead Prostate Cancer -non surgical service with responsibility for ensuring high quality, cost-effective healthcare.
Manage and lead a workforce of Urology Cancer specialist nurses excluding Prostate cancer CNS's .
Responsible for the assessment, planning, diagnosis implementation and evaluation of care, as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist skills.
Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students
Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care.
Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area.
60% clinical practice Prostate cancer care. 40% leadership for Non Prostate Cnacer Urology CNS's).
