We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Clinical Pharmacist to join our medicine team and lead the clinical pharmacy services for emergency and acute medicine.
The Pharmacy Department at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ambitious and forward thinking, striving to ensure that the patient is always at the heart of everything we do.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic pharmacist to provide a new vision and shape for our emergency and acute medicine services. You will have responsibilities for oversight of the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Acute Medicine beds within the trust. You will need to lead and manage the provision of pharmaceutical care to these patients alongside your team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants.
The role offers a combination of patient facing clinical duties, including medicines optimisation and prescribing opportunities in a negotiated location across ED, SDEC and acute medicine; as well directorate duties including participation in incident investigations, management of local documents, participation in and delivery of MDT teaching, clinical governance and service planning.
Main duties of the job
o Liaise with the relevant senior pharmacy, medical and nursing staff, other allied health professionals (AHPs) and managers to promote safe, evidence based and cost-effective use of medication in designated clinical areao Provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to designated wards as part of the pharmacy team -Emergency Department (ED), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Acute Medicineo Prescribe medication for individual patients within the agreed scope of practice and according to the CUH pharmacist prescribing policyo Participate in and lead where required on novel pharmacy projects in the care of patients in designated clinical areao Identify and undertake research to inform practice developments and underpin delivery of an effective, evidence-based pharmacy serviceo Provide pharmacy leadership to with the acute services directorate, alongside the advanced clinical pharmacists for Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DME) and General Medicine.o Assist the Lead Pharmacist for Medicine to provide divisional support as required.

Working in a large teaching hospital we also host a range of regional services and provide advanced emergency medicine care through our role as a regional trauma centre in the East of England and specialists in antidote management.
There is the opportunity to participate in the new urgent and emergency care strategy group, working with CUH stakeholders, as well as ICB partners to plan for the growth of the emergency and acute medicine departments and the changing NHS landscape. Hence we are looking for a proactive individual with experience supporting patient flow and capacity, with the drive to deliver service change and development.
As well as working with pharmacy colleagues, you will need to engage with the multi-disciplinary teams working in emergency and acute medicine including: doctors, nurse, ACPs, front door frailty, discharge planning and operational colleagues. The entire team is focused on rapid assessment, diagnosis and care planning for patients to ensure that they are safely and appropriately admitted or discharged with onwards follow up and safety netting.
