Job summary
We have an opportunity available for a Tobacco Dependency Advisor to be part of an exciting new team delivering a Tobacco Dependence Treatment Service to patients who are identified as smokers when admitted into Hospital.
Working closely with the Smoking Cessation Lead Consultant, you will be expected to engage with patients in a clinical setting and motivate those who smoke by offering evidence-based behavioural support. As well as offering patients advice and support, Advisors will also be expected to carry out Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and educate and recommend appropriate Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
You will also work closely with Community Stop Smoking Services and will encourage patients to engage with and utilise these services once discharged from hospital, to ensure they stay on a smoke free path. You will also carry out post-discharge follow-up to evaluate smoking cessation success rates.
This role is intended to tackle health inequalities across our region by providing an outstanding service by educating, supporting and guiding those who need intervention to stop smoking for good.
Main duties of the job
Work with minimal indirect supervision operating within the assessed level of competence and be accountable for all aspects of own work.
Prioritise own workload according to the needs of the service and their individual caseload.
Accurately record and report activities and results.
Support the delivery of the service key performance and national reporting indicators for tobacco dependency.
Liaise with others within the Trust to promote the Tobacco Dependence Treatment Service and encourage appropriate referrals.
Utilise persuasive, motivational and empathic skills as required because there may be barriers to understanding, alongside limited or fluctuating motivation to change
Support individuals to make informed choices about their own health and wellbeing and support them in initiating and sustaining appropriate behavioural changes to improvetheir health.
Maintain good working relationships with a range of staff across a variety of disciplines, grades, and organisations.
Engage in, recommend, promote and lead audits or surveys to support service improvement.
Identify any risks, incidents, concerns, or complaints and escalate appropriately to the Lead for Tobacco dependence.
