Job summary
The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory at Addenbrooke's Hospital is pleased to be recruiting Scientific Support Officers (SSO) to help our busy scientific teams with the task of ensuring patient samples progress through the Laboratory efficiently and on the correct pathway.
These pivotal roles provide comprehensive support to Duty Scientists, send-away pathways, the prenatal service and the referrals to the whole genome sequencing service. The role will also include training new staff, quality and continuous process improvement in an ISO:15189-accredited medical laboratory environment. The SSO team works across the department, collaborating with scientific, administrative and specimen reception staff.
The Rare Disease Team, Solid Cancer Team and Haematology-Oncology Team are each recruiting into SSO positions. You will be assigned a team based on their application, prior knowledge and interest.
These new posts are being created to support the laboratory in delivering the National Genomic Test Directory. As the lead laboratory of the East Genomic Laboratory Hub, the Cambridge Laboratory has a critical role in the delivery of genomic services to a growing population of over 8 million people.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly professional, comprehensive, effective and efficient scientific support service to the Duty Scientists within the Genomics Laboratory, CUH.
To ensure samples are assigned the correct testing pathway through the laboratory.
Attributes of the successful candidates will include very high levels of professionalism, discretion and attention to detail. They will be highly literate, with the ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time and able to work flexibly within a scientific community.
