Senior Trauma Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics (Pelvic/Acetabular)
This job is now closed
Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Senior Trauma Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics, with a specialist interest in Pelvic and Acetabular surgery and complex trauma for a period of 3 months only commencing on or about 1 May 2024 until 06 August 2024.
This is a short term fellowship post, due to the current fellow taking up a consultant post.
A large amount of the week is scheduled to be in the main orthopaedic trauma theatre.
There is an excellent opportunity for involvement in supervised, high energy, complex orthopaedic trauma cases.
This job would suit a senior trainee, looking for 3 months of complex trauma experience, or for someone considering a career in an MTC or P&A surgery.
It would also be a great post for a trainee with a long term interest in hip revision, as 2 of the consultants have an interest in fix and replace acetabular surgery and periprosthetic acetabular and femur fractures.
Main duties of the job
Orthopaedic Trauma surgery in Cambridge has seen a dramatic change in the last few years, with the development of Cambridge as the Level I trauma centre for East Anglia. A full range of Orthopaedic Trauma is covered, including pelvic and acetabular trauma, complex periarticular fractures, as well as non union, deformity and bone infection surgery. We accept tertiary referrals for all types of complex fractures, including open fractures, and have a good relationship with the plastic surgical directorate.
There will be no routine on call duties. At least 2 full days will be in the Orthopaedic Trauma Theatre, and 1 in the clinic. One or more sessions of lower limb arthroplasty will also be part of the timetable. Friday mornings are devoted to the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit 'Grand round' where all the week's complex cases are discussed, as well as being part of an ongoing trauma teaching programme. The fellow will be expected to play an active role in this teaching, as well as junior teaching sessions. Currently this post is NOT recognised for training, as approval has not yet been agreed by the JCCST.
Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.
