Job summary

Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Neurology with a sub-specialty interest in neuro-immunology and neuro critical care.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have a special clinical interest and expertise in the field of neuro-immunology and neuro critical care.

The post holder would be expected to contribute to the non-resident on call rota which is currently 1:12 weekends for full-time consultants.

There is a weekly MS team multidisciplinary team meeting. The applicant also has the opportunity to contribute to the regional CUH neuro-immunology clinic on a fortnightly basis, wider experience in neuroinflammatory conditions is desirable but not essential.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Neurology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors' professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

About us

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). The neurology department at CUH provides a busy secondary care service to the local population of Cambridgeshire, north Essex and north-west Hertfordshire, including general neurology outpatients, an acute neurology service with a presence in the emergency department, and a tertiary neurology service to a wide catchment area across the Eastern region. This is provided by both Addenbrookes-based and district general hospital-employed consultant neurologists, with expertise in diseases including epilepsy, headache, movement disorders, neuro-muscular, neuroinflammatory, and neurogenetic disorders.
