Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology with sub-specialty interest in Cornea / Cataract at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS trust.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Ophthalmology provides a busy service for our local population in addition to receiving referrals from across the region for sub-specialty services. The department places a strong emphasis on sub-specialisation, providing every sub-specialty except ocular oncology.

This is a new post to support the cornea +/- cataract service in the department.

The duties of this post will include sub-specialty clinics, procedural sessions (laser clinics and/or intravitreal injection lists), emergency eye clinics and theatre lists. The post would also be suitable for an ophthalmologist who did not wish to provide surgery. The timetable can be adapted depending on an applicant's expertise and/or interest, in accordance with the service needs of the department.

This post would suit applicants wishing to gain experience towards an application for the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). The timetable would be adjusted to provide CESR 'training sessions' in appropriate sub-specialty services on a rotational basis.

You will have 4 years full-time post graduate experience (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.
