Job summary
Nursing Associate Apprentice opportunities
We are delighted to say we are expanding our Nursing Associate workforce. We are looking to recruit individuals committed to providing high quality compassionate care, respect and kindness to our patients.
You may already work here at CUH as a Healthcare Support Worker or in other patient care support roles or may have previous experience in health care. Alternatively, you may have no prior experience; this is not essential as a comprehensive training programme that includes achievement of the Care Certificate will be provided before joining the apprenticeship programme. We would need you to commence employment with us by May, 2024 at the latest, to join the September, 2024 cohort
Successful completion of the two-year level 5 Foundation Degree qualification will lead to registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and promotion to the Registered Nursing Associate position (Band 4) at CUH. Nursing Associates are accountable for their own practice and are regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
There are no university fees, no student debt - you will earn as you learn and will be supported throughout your training.
Main duties of the job
You will develop and maintain competencies, knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours related to work to the role of Nursing Associate. You can find out more about the role in our job information pack and from these links NHS Employers, Nursing and Midwifery Council or on this video.
The apprenticeship incorporates a combination of academic theory, practice and learning in the workplace. You will be based in one of the following clinical areas undertaking regular rostered shift patterns for part of your working hours:
- Emergency Department
- Medicine
- Surgery
- Paediatrics
You will attend Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge campus) in term time and undertake l clinical placements throughout the programme (for 60% of your time); these placements provide exposure across health and social care settings and the four fields of nursing (Adult, Child, Learning Disabilities & Mental Health).
Entry Requirements/funding rules
Must:
- Hold GCSE grade 9-4 (formerly grades A*- C) in English and maths or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications and evidence these prior to interview
- Be able to work 37.5 hours per week in order to meet the educational requirements
These are the educational entry requirements to commence the foundation degree apprenticeship. However, if you do not currently possess these; you can join us as a clinical support worker (See Current vacancies | CUH Careers) and be supported to undertake functional skills training to support a future nursing apprenticeship application whilst you are in our employment.
About us
You must also:
- Be available to work a variety of shifts across a 7 day period on a roster basis; this includes night shifts, weekends and public holidays for which there are payment enhancements on top of basic pay.
- Have a right to work in the UK, or for EU citizens hold pre-settled or settled status and have been a UK or EU resident for the last three years or have indefinite leave to remain with documents that are not due to expire during the duration of the apprenticeship contract. Applicants must also not already have a qualification at a higher level within the same subject matter. This requirement is due to UK apprenticeship funding regulations.
