Job summary
The Technical Assistant will participate in the smooth running of surgical training, research and development courses at the Microsurgical Laboratory and the Surgical Training Centre
Main duties of the job
- Prepare cadaveric specimens required for surgical courses - including appropriate defrost, recovery and dissection. This may involve sharp instruments and manual and motorised industrial equipment, for which appropriate training and supervision will be provided.
- Work with fresh frozen anatomical specimens.
- Work in accordance with the highest standards of Health and Safety, always maintaining appropriate levels of cleanliness and housekeeping within the facility, in accordance with H&S and infection control policies.
- Maintain adequate stock levels, e.g. surgical gowns and aprons, chemicals, disinfectants, cleaning fluids and other consumables.
- Ensure that all surgical instruments are suitably washed (on site) and, when required, sterilised (off site).
- To maintain document control and audit system that permit robust and auditable traceability of every aspect of the work the facility undertakes, both for current and future use.
- To ensure that all necessary equipment and support is in place for individual courses and in general terms.
- To act, at all times, in a way that complies with the requirements of the HTA licence under which we operate.
- Share responsibility for receiving cadaveric donations, with flexibility relating to working hours to allow for varying arrival times.
- Understand and implement correct identification procedures, necessary to maintain accurate records in accordance with HTA requirements.
