Job summary
Applications from motivated and enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists are invited to apply for the post of Laboratory Manager in the Biochemical Genetics Unit. Applicants must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist and have experience of various methodologies utilised in the Biochemical Genetics Unit including tandem mass spectrometry and a range of chromatographic techniques. In addition practical experience of resource and change management and team building would be an advantage.
You will have the opportunity to shape and develop the dedicated team of healthcare professionals to maintain a high quality service for diagnosis and management of inborn errors of metabolism and for newborn blood spot screening. This role includes the day to day management of the laboratory including compliance with the quality management system, expert advice and specialist training of staff. Personal development in laboratory management skills will be actively encouraged and supported.
The Biochemical Genetics Unit provides Newborn Blood Spot Screening for East Anglia, immunosuppressant drug service and metabolic investigations for hospitals within this area and further afield. The laboratory team is committed to providing a friendly, responsive and efficient service, and you will need to demonstrate both leadership qualities and ability to work as a team player.
Main duties of the job
To work with the Biochemical Genetics Unit (BGU) director in providing a highly specialised service (i.e. newborn blood spot screening and metabolic investigations) for Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to nationally accepted standards (ISO 15189)
To include:
- Managing and co-ordinating the day to day activities of the laboratory as well as service improvement programmes
- Providing expert advice and specialist training in the analysis of tests in the BGU repertoire
- Being involved in the development, maintenance and implementation the Quality Management System
