Job summary

We are looking to recruit individuals committed to providing high quality compassionate care, respect and kindness to our patients. As a Nursing Associate Apprentice you will be focused on caring for people whilst undertaking an apprenticeship and a Foundation Degree qualification.

You may already have experience in health care or you may have no prior experience; this is not essential as a comprehensive training programme that includes achievement of the care certificate, will be provided before joining the apprenticeship programme. We would need you to join us this year or by January, 2024 at the latest for the spring cohort.

Successful completion of the two-year level 5 Foundation Degree qualification will lead to registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and promotion to the Registered Nursing Associate position (Band 4) at CUH. Nursing Associates are valued members of the nursing workforce accountable for their own practice and are regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

There are no university fees, no student debt - you will earn as you learn and be supported throughout your training by CUH and our university education provider.

You will develop and maintain competencies, knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours related to work to the role of Nursing Associate. You can find out more about the role in our job information pack and from these links NHS Employers, Nursing and Midwifery Council or on this video.

Main duties of the job

The apprenticeship incorporates a combination of academic theory, practice and learning in the workplace. You will be based in one of the following clinical areas undertaking regular rostered shift patterns for part of your working hours:

  • Critical Care
  • Emergency Department/EAU Medicine
  • Department of Medicine for the Elderly
  • Paediatrics
  • Women's Health

You will also attend university and undertake additional placements throughout the programme for about 60% of your time; these placements provide exposure across health and social care settings and the four fields of nursing (Adult, Child, Learning Disabilities & Mental Health).

You will continue to be offered further development opportunities as a Nursing Associate through the various range of training and education programmes at CUH.

Entry Requirements/funding rules

Must:

  • Hold GCSE grade 9-4 (formerly grades A*- C) in English and maths or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications and be able to provide evidence of these
  • Be able to work 37.5 hours in order to meet the educational requirements
