Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology (3 posts)
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Department of Ophthalmology provides a busy service for our local population in addition to receiving referrals from across the region for sub-specialty services. The department places a strong emphasis on sub-specialisation, providing every sub-specialty except ocular oncology.
There is one replacement and two new specialty doctor posts which represent a significant expansion for our department. The indicative sub-specialty interests of these specialty doctor posts are as follows:
Post 1 - Medical Retina
Post 2 - Cornea / Cataract
Post 3 - Paediatric Ophthalmology
Main duties of the job
The duties of these post will include sub-specialty clinics, procedural sessions (laser clinics and/or intravitreal injection lists), emergency eye clinics and theatre lists. The timetables can be adapted depending on an applicant's expertise and/or interest, in accordance with the service needs of the department.
These posts would suit applicants wishing to gain experience towards an application for the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). The timetables would be adjusted to provide CESR 'training sessions' in appropriate sub-specialty services on a rotational basis.
You will have 4 years full-time post graduate experience (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.
