Job summary

Resident Optometrists receive specialist training in conducting a broad range of hospital optometry and ophthalmology clinics. In addition, you will be introduced to clinical teaching, audit, research and management. No experience in hospital optometry is necessary.

You will have completed your pre-registration period.

As Resident Optometrist, you will be supported to complete additional professional training such as College certificates in medical retina, glaucoma and independent prescribing.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide hospital optometry clinical services using sound theoretical and practical knowledge. Optometry services include low vision, specialist refraction and paediatric refraction services.
  • Perform precise clinical techniques such as pachymetry, contact tonometry, slip-lamp examination, visual fields & imaging test.
  • Work closely with consultant ophthalmologists to provide specialist care and in close association with all optometrists, medical, orthoptic, nursing and administrative staff to ensure a high standard care for all patients.
