Job summary

The Cambridge University Hospitals Pathology team are seeking to recruit a suitable individual to manage the Histopathology service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operational manager with a background in Histopathology.

The Histopathology service is entering a period of rapid development including; moving to new state of the art premises, implementation of new automation solutions, exploring the use of AI technology following the introduction of digital pathology and collaborating with our genomics colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will have autonomy and be responsible for the service provision and the running of the histopathology services at CUH.

Manage the separate specialties within Histopathology.

Responsible for the managerial responsibility within the service, including planning for increased workload activities, staff turnover by procurement of human resources by utilising the recruitment process, health & safety, quality and training.

You will act as a budget holder for the department. Lead on service improvement and change management.

Responsible for emergency planning for specialty to ensue provision of service such as; equipment failure, plant failure or staffing levels.

To work closely with other departments to ensure confluent patient care and patient pathways.

To process highly specialist investigations and be responsible for the standard and quality of results of the service.

To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service.

  • Science Degree or equivalent.
  • Appropriate Post Graduate Masters degree or equivalent.
  • Holding a qualification that supports management responsibilities.
