Job summary
The centralised outpatients encompasses twelve speciality clinics and we are seeking several Band 3 healthcare Support Workers with good communication skills to provide support to our patients and nursing teams. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand your clinical knowledge on a variety of clinics working as part of the multidisciplinary team, running certain clinics which are allocated by the registered nurses plus. You will be provided with a comprehensive training programme which will equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need to deliver kind safe, excellent and compassionate care.
Main duties of the job
Working across various outpatient clinics the role would include:
Clinic 1 Trauma and Orthopaedics: Undertaking simple wound dressings. Fitting rebound and walking boots, braces/splints, Taking bloods, MRSA and Covid-19 swabs pre surgery.
Clinic 4,4a Urology: The band 3 will be expected to run the bladder pressure clinic, support the urodynamics and kidney stone clinics. Perform simple catheterisation for procedures.
Clinic 7 Dermatology: Scrubbing in for theatre once clinically competent. Undertake wound assessments/dressings/simple bandaging/ skins scrapings, samples and nail cuttings with training provided.
Clinic 10 Ear Nose and Throat: Band 3s will be responsible for audits and safety checks. Tracheostomy training will be given to assist the nurse with any dressing changes. Perform ECGs, bloods and to cannulate and will be running a clinic in which a doctor requires these skills.
Clinic medical Outpatients Run the transplant assessment clinics, assist the nurse with patient admissions from clinic to the ward. Run medical clinics under nurse supervision. Covering a mix of medical clinics including the following specialities transplant, Renal, Gastro, Cardiology, ID, Respiratory and Allergy. Perform simple dressings using the aseptic technique.
All posts will include mentoring Band 2 Healthcare Support Workers.
