Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and self-motivated individual to join the Pre-Operative Assessment Department, as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Prehabilitation. This role will involve working within a large multi-disciplinary team, as the sole physiotherapist, providing prehabilitation advice and support to a wide range of surgical patients.
You will work within two Prehabilitation services at CUH: the PRIME Service and Fit 4 Surgery.
The PRIME Service is a highly specialised Clinic, comprising of a large team of Consultant Anaesthetists and Geriatricians, plus Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. The team assess and optimise older adults with frailty prior to undergoing elective surgery. There will be opportunities to work with a variety of Surgical specialities, including Colorectal, HPB, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedics, Plastics and Vascular.
Fit 4 Surgery is a prehabilitation service aimed at all patients undergoing major surgery at CUH. This team is comprised of specialist Nurses and Consultant Anaesthetists and aims to improve patient fitness before surgery. The team have recently secured funding to expand the service to include digital prehabilitation to patients.
Main duties of the job
- The focus of this role is preoperative optimisation through prehabilitation and proactive discharge planning.
- You will be part of the PRIME service; a service which supports and optimises older adults with frailty prior to elective surgery.
- You will also be part of the Fit 4 Surgery team; providing physiotherapy input to an optimisation for patients undergoing major surgery.
- You should be a recognised expert in the proactive management of pre-operative patients, particularly those with frailty, responsible for providing specialist advice regarding expert rehabilitation and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students.
- Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to older patients' care encompassing evidence based care.
- Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area, including appropriate dissemination of research findings.
