Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUHNFT) is delighted to invite applications for the post of Clinical Nurse Specialist for Refractory Headache 6 (33.75 hours pro rata).
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's Neuroscience Center is based at the Addenbrooke's site. You will be part of an enthusiastic and friendly team of 1 Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Refractory Headache management and 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists. In addition, the sub-specialty has input from other doctors, trainee doctors and nurses/allied health professionals from across the trust and the community. The team prides itself of its great deal of team-spirit, cooperation and mutual support as it continues to expand.
The Department of Neurosciences is a specialist regional centre for procedural therapies for headache management. We offer a nurse-led Refractory Headache service and the addition of this post will move us closer to our vision for a more comprehensive service. The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop their own interests in Refractory Headache Management and to provide leadership for other clinical staff.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder is/will become a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for support with assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures
- Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students
- Responsible for implementing a clearly defined and integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence-based care as outlined by team
- Required to undertake research and clinical audits in own specialist area
- Integral part of consultant-led Refractory Headache service
- Support education around identifying, diagnosing, referring, treating refractory headache patients in primary care.
- Support team optimal referrals into secondary/ tertiary care by managing refractory headache patients in primary care optimally. Support ensuring appropriate referral to other tertiary or quaternary providers as required.
- Responsible for supporting training and supporting monitoring patients on calcitonin gene receptor peptide (CGRP) monoclonal antibodies (mAb).
- To be nurse support for both the procedural or CGRP mAb service, including service development and fulfilling governance requirements.
