Applications are invited for two Consultants in Paediatric Palliative Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
An exciting new development has been funded by NHS England to grow a full regional, multidisciplinary and integrated Palliative Medicine service for children across the East of England.
This will build on an established and highly successful Childrens Palliative Care service, delivered using a managed clinical network (MCN) approach.
These two posts will lead and shape the future of the service which offers symptom management, palliative and end of life care to babies, children with life-limiting conditions and their families in their place of choice and across all settings.
Main duties of the job
You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Paediatric Palliative Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.
About us
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMCs Good Medical Practice (2013). The Paediatric Palliative Medicine Consultants will work collaboratively with childrens health services across the region and including childrens hospices (EACH, Keech and Havens Hospices) via the East of England Paediatric Palliative Care MCN aiming to ensure the most appropriate support is delivered in the most appropriate setting (home, hospice, hospital).
The scope includes Fetal Medicine, management of infants and children in Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care settings, Paediatric Oncology, Neurodisability and in the full range of paediatric services. It extends from the point of diagnosis with the aim of enhancing quality of life, controlling distressing symptoms and providing practical and emotional support through treatment, at end of life and into bereavement.
Out of hours support and advice is already provided by Hospice Specialist Nurses with a second tier of telephone on-call support provided by the MCN Specialist Team rota. The post holders will contribute to this rota. There will be no Acute Medicine out of hours cover within CUH.
