Job summary

Applications are invited for Trust Doctor FY2 Level in General Medicine. These posts are available for a fixed term of 10 months from November 2023 6th August 2024. There may be a possibility of rotation within departments. However, this is not guaranteed.

Candidates will have the opportunity to take study leave to attend courses and conferences.The West Suffolk Hospital holds an ALS course four times a year that trainees can attend. In addition, there is the opportunity to attend local ALERT courses and Teach the Teachers course.

Trust Doctors at Foundation Level have free access to HORUS (Foundation E-Portfolio) and are allocated a Clinical Supervisor.

Main duties of the job

There is a possibility this post could be extended past the advertised length of time, for a maximum of two years.

Positions will be within General Medicine, there may be a possibility of rotation. However, this is not guaranteed.

Some rotations may be based on a Full Shift Rota or Normal Working Day Rota only which could be in General Medicine.

Department of Medicine

Duties:

  • General ward work and on-going care of in-patients.
  • Maintenance of ward lists.
  • Handover of patients to on call and hospital at night teams.
  • Consultant ward rounds.
  • Attendance at MDTs.

The duties of the post will be carried out in conjunction with the Consultant by means of daily ward rounds and follow-up care. The Post holder is expected to undertake appropriate investigations and therapeutic procedures (under supervision). They will also maintain adequate medical records of the patients stay in hospital and dictate discharge summaries and enquiries so that they are promptly sent out to the General Practitioner. Patients are admitted via the Acute Admissions Unit to the medical wards some of which are: a ward based non-invasive ventilation bay on the respiratory ward, a Cardiac Centre, gastroenterology, stroke unit including a HASU, and diabetes and endocrinology.

Rota:

F2: Medicine This could be either a Normal Working Day (NWD) rota Monday Friday or a Full Shift Rota which includes out of hours working.
