Applications are invited for a rotational post at Trust Doctor (FY1) Level. These posts are available for a fixed term of one year from 2nd August 2023 6th August 2024.
All positions will have 3 rotations, one of which will be within General Medicine; one will be within General Surgery or a Surgical Specialty.
All successful candidates will have the opportunity to take study leave to attend courses and conferences. The West Suffolk Hospital holds an ALS course four times a year that trainees can attend. In addition, there is the opportunity to attend local ALERT courses and Teach the Teachers course.
Trust Doctors at Foundation Level have free access to HORUS (Foundation E-Portfolio) and are allocated a Clinical Supervisor for each rotation and an Educational Supervisor for their year.
We have an excellent MRCP PACES teaching programme providing local teaching and a MOCK PACES exam.
There is a possibility this post could be extended past the advertised length of time, for a maximum of two years.
Essential criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent
- Ability to demonstrate that you meet the requirements set out in the Foundation Programme 2011 Eligibility Criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
- Ability to demonstrate that you have the necessary language and communication skills to meet the requirements of the post

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working with the surgical team under consultant supervision and be expected to do a 1:11 daytime on-call. The duties of the post will be carried out in conjunction with the Specialist Registrar/Specialty Registrar/F2 doctor by means of daily ward rounds and follow-up care and the attendance at some operating sessions.It is the F1 Surgeons duty to maintain adequate medical records of the patients stay in hospital and to produce discharge summaries and enquiries.

F1: Medicine This could be either a Normal Working Day (NWD) rota Monday Friday or a Full Shift Rota which includes out of hours working.
Audit:
Opportunities to choose new audit from directorate audit programme, or to take part in a rolling audit cycle.
Learning Opportunities:
Induction course. ALERT course. ILS course, MDT meetings. Weekly X-Ray meeting; Opportunity to attend other teaching sessions in daily lunchtime programme. Ward rounds and general clinical work. Regular meetings with clinical supervisors.
Doctors on a placement of 6 months in length or less will not be entitled to an Educational Supervisor, but will still be allocated a Clinical Supervisor
