Job summary
Taking time out after foundation training? Fancy spending the rest of the year in a ground-breaking role, making IT work for doctors and patients?
West Suffolk NHS FT is a global digital exemplar, which means we have been recognised as an international leader in healthcare IT. Over the past seven years the trust has been digitising rapidly - we have introduced an electronic patient record, established the first two-system health information exchange with Cambridge University Hospitals (making our respective patient records visible to one another) and introduced a patient portal (making the information we hold visible to the people it actually belongs to).
Now it is time to make sure we use these systems to their maximum possible effect. We already have consultants, nurses and allied health professionals working with IT colleagues to drive the strategy and delivery of the digital programme. Now we need a junior doctor to join the team.
Main duties of the job
The clinical information fellow will work on optimisation and innovative projects, helping refine the way the IT system works so it does exactly what clinicians need it to as well as working with the data the system collects, exploring what it can tell us about clinical quality and bringing it to life in ways we haven't seen before.
Uniquely, the post holder will also have the opportunity to work as part of the clinical digital team on the design of a new hospital building, replacing the existing West Suffolk Hospital. The trust is one of 40 trusts on the national New Hospitals Programme and needs to complete a full rebuild of the district general hospital building by 2030. The e-Care team are working closely with the new hospital programme team to integrate digital and data technologies fully into the future vision for clinical care. The clinical fellow will specialise in digital and data for diagnostic services, incorporating cardiac diagnostics, radiology and endoscopy.
The post has also been designed to allow you to maintain and develop your clinical skills and competencies by spending 50% of your time in your IT role and the other 50% working normal workdays, in the cardiology department.
WSFT has a national and international profile for its achievements in digitising healthcare, with many of the projects and developments we run first of kind in the UK. This post will attract doctors who are interested in understanding the role and career path in digital medicine.
