This vacancy is full time, however part-time hours will be
considered. The contact is fixed term
for 1 year, with the opportunity for it to become a substantive post. The post
holder will join a team of 14 Consultant Radiologists in providing a
comprehensive radiology service to patients in West Suffolk. All Consultants undertake general radiology
including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting. All Radiologists have specialist interests
and support the relevant multidisciplinary teams.
The job is for a radiologist with an interest in interventional
radiology, with experience in vascular and non-vascular intervention with
skills including but not limited to, angioplasties, nephrostomies, ureteric
stents, biopsies, drains, biliary intervention, varicocoele / uterine artery
embolisation. Appropriate clinical skills and knowledge will be expected.
Currently, WSH employs one interventional radiologist who works 4 PAs at WSH.
The post holder has the opportunity to initiate service expansion and aid in
the development of IR services in the planned new hospital, which is due to be
built by 2028. The post does not include
an out-of-hours interventional on-call commitment as the out of hours
interventional service is provided by a neighbouring tertiary centre.
The post holder will join the other radiologists sharing the
provision for general on-call service out of hours. CT reporting is outsourced overnight 7 days a
week (8pm-9am weekdays and weekends/bank holidays). Currently all Radiologists
have the facility to undertake home reporting with dedicated AGFA work stations
and VR dictation facilities provided for all current and future Radiologists.
The department actively encourages skill mix with various
radiographer reporting and extended practice roles.
There is a Duty Radiologist as part of the rota, available
in-hours within the department. All
requests for inpatient Smart imaging examinations are vetted by radiologists
and cases are discussed with hospital clinicians and GPs. The postholders will be expected to
participate in, and support this process.
The post holders will also be expected to participate in
departmental audit and clinical governance processes, and will be expected to
provide training and education to medical and other departmental staff as
required. Clinicoradiological conferences and MDTs are recognised as an
increasingly important part of the department workload and active participation
in the sub speciality meetings of interest will be expected. The department was
one of the first in the country to achieve ISAS/QSI accreditation and
consultants are expected to embrace and participate in this process.
The posts will be for ten programmed activities in addition
to on-call. The exact nature of these
programmed activities will be discussed with the head of department and
consultant colleagues prior to taking up the post.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to hold the
Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists, or equivalent, and to satisfy
the current regulations concerning accreditation prior to taking up this
appointment. Accreditation is not,
however, a statutory requirement. Since
1st January 1997 it has been a legal requirement for all doctors to be on the
Specialist Register before taking up a consultant appointment.
For a full-time Consultant a standard week would consist of
8.5 sessions of DCC and 1.5 sessions of SPA. This DCC/SPA split has been agreed
by the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust LNC.
The Trust does pay additional PAs for those consultants performing
agreed, specified additional roles.
All full-time Consultants would expect to have at least one
session of CT, one ultrasound, one MRI, one plain film reporting and one Duty.
The remainder of the sessions would depend on the individuals specialist
interests.
