Job summary
The plastic surgery service at West Suffolk Hospital is entering an exciting phase of service development. As planning continues for the new hospital build the clinical team are formulating a 5-year clinical strategy to support the delivery of 130% of 19/20 activity by 2024. As part of this process alternative pathways are in development to ensure patients receive the right procedure in the right place, moving some activity such as minor ops into community sites.
Applicants are invited for the post of a Consultant Plastic Surgeon on a permanent basis. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Consultant who will contribute to the provision and development of high-quality plastic care for the West Suffolk population. Sessional commitments will include outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, review of inpatients at the request of consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary clinical meetings.
This post allows the opportunity for an individual with a vision and leadership qualities to further develop a modern and progressive Plastic Surgery Department. The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with all other members of the multidisciplinary team ensuring that high quality, safe and effective patient treatment and care is maintained at all times.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to improve Plastic Surgery within West Suffolk and help enable the Trust to improve and maintain performance within national waiting time and national cancer targets. There will be particular emphasis within this post on supporting the service to achieve National Cancer Waiting time targets and ensure that services are delivered within agreed parameters and covering clinical guidelines.
This role will be suitable for a surgeon who is adept at balancing competing demands, is comfortable with being flexible and responsive to help meet the service needs of the department. The post holder will be expected to take a role in ensuring delivery of a quality service and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the clinical service.
